The Ajala Rasag and Muibat Kehinde Ajala (ARM) Foundation has taken its literacy advocacy campaign to the streets of Mushin, Lagos, with a Literacy Walk organised to commemorate the 2026 International Literacy Day.
The initiative, which brought together members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Lagos State Chapter, volunteers and other stakeholders, was led by the foundation’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. (Mrs.) Muibat Kehinde Ajala.
The walk was designed to raise awareness about the importance of literacy, education and lifelong learning, while extending the foundation’s community-based interventions to children and residents who may have limited access to educational resources.
During the walk through communities in the Mushin axis, participants engaged residents and children and distributed books, writing materials and other educational resources to children encountered on the streets.
Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Ajala charged young people to embrace responsibility and recognise their capacity to contribute positively to their communities.
She emphasised the importance of leadership at every level, urging participants to lead responsibly whenever they are entrusted with responsibilities.
“From the home, we lead. Once you have a responsibility to lead, lead.”
The ARM Foundation CEO also encouraged young people to take their education seriously, stressing that education remains an essential tool for personal development and societal progress.
According to her, education is “not a scam but a necessity for every individual.”
Dr. Ajala further reiterated the foundation’s commitment to ensuring that a child’s background does not become a barrier to accessing education.
Through its education and scholarship initiatives, the ARM Foundation supports disadvantaged students with scholarships, educational materials, school supplies, healthcare and academic assistance.
The foundation noted that promoting literacy and building an educated society requires collective responsibility, with government, individuals, organisations, institutions and communities all having important roles to play.
The 2026 International Literacy Day theme, “Literacy for People, the Planet and Prosperity: Empowering Communities Through Lifelong Learning,” highlights the role of continuous learning in transforming individuals, strengthening communities and creating sustainable opportunities.
The ARM Foundation said the Literacy Walk forms part of its broader commitment to promoting education, empowering vulnerable communities and ensuring that more children have the opportunity to learn, grow and realise their potential.
The foundation reaffirmed its determination to continue supporting initiatives that expand access to learning and keep literacy at the centre of community development.
